Your counseling process will be a reflection of your individualized therapy goals. However, here are some of the ways that counseling can help and some of the benefits of therapy you may experience:
Therapy is a unique experience that varies based on individual needs. Therefore, no two therapy processes look the same. However, therapy will generally start with assessing symptoms and developing a plan for treatment in the first appointment (intake assessment). Often, in the first sessions, therapy will typically involve some form of education or learning to allow for new understanding, validation of experience, and increased perspective. Therapy may involve (but is not limited to) processing through conversation, reflective exercises, mindfulness practices, experiential therapy activities, creative interventions (writing, art, play, etc.), brainstorming, planning, and goal setting. Your therapy process will be tailored to your unique goals and interests. We also welcome your feedback, ideas, and creativity to personalize your process!
We offer sessions in our office located in Boulder, CO or by telehealth appointment (must be located in Colorado or Washington at the time of the service). We use a HIPAA-compliant video platform called Simple Practice to conduct telehealth sessions.
Therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length.
This depends entirely on treatment needs and goals. Some clients will attend for only a few sessions (short-term therapy), and some clients will benefit from an ongoing therapy process with a longer duration. Therapy is completely voluntary, and you are welcome to end services at any time should you accomplish your treatment goals or want to pursue a different form of treatment.
After your intake appointment, all follow-up appointments can be scheduled during sessions, or by use of your Client Portal that will be created when you start services. You can access your portal via the scheduling website (linked in menu above) or via the app. You will use this same system to modify appointments.
Yes, this is an important part of making your process feel safe and supportive. None of your information will be shared without your written permission (or if under age 12, with permission from the guardian), except when it is required by law or to ensure safety. All exceptions to confidentiality will be noted in intake paperwork and discussed in the initial session together.
The age of consent for counseling in the state of Colorado is age 12. This means that individuals 12+ in Colorado will need to consent for their own counseling services and will be able to make decisions about their therapy process/confidentiality themselves. However, in most cases, guardian involvement in the therapy process of a minor is strongly encouraged to support treatment goals. Additionally, if a minor expresses concern regarding harm to self or others, a guardian will be notified to create opportunity for safety planning.
In Washington, the age of consent is 13. This means that individuals 13+ in Washington will need to consent for their own counseling services and will be able to make decisions about their therapy process/confidentiality. However, in most cases, guardian involvement in the therapy process of a minor is strongly encouraged to support treatment goals. Additionally, if a minor expresses concern regarding harm to self or others, a guardian will be notified to create opportunity for safety planning.
Individuals under age 12 in Colorado and under age 13 in Washington will need a legal guardian to consent for counseling services. Please note that it is our general policy to notify all legal guardians of the initiation of the therapy process. In cases of custody disputes, a copy of the custody agreement will be required.
An initial appointment (intake assessment) is billed at $170. All follow-up appointments (individual and family therapy) are billed at $150/session.
Billing is conducted through our online system. We require that you place a credit, debit, or FSA/HSA card on file to schedule sessions and access therapy. Our online system accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, Discover, Diners Club, and FSA/HSA. After your session, your card will be charged the amount due.
Panorama Mental Health is an out-of-network provider, and therefore does not take insurance. However, we can provide a superbill (detailed invoice) for clients to submit to their insurance provider for reimbursement of services (if applicable). Please check with your insurance company regarding your reimbursement policies for counseling. Here are some questions to ask your insurer:
By law, you are entitled to a "Good Faith Estimate" under the No Suprises Act. This means that healthcare providers are required to give patients who are not using insurance to pay for services an estimate of the bill for all medical services to avoid surprise bills. This includes counseling services. You will be provided a Good Faith Estimate before starting treatment and can also request this at any time.
You may cancel or reschedule your appointment at any time; however, we require you to notify us at least 48 hours before a scheduled appointment to avoid a session fee. All cancellations made less than 48 hours from the time of the appointment and all "no shows" will be charged the full session amount. This is to ensure our availability for all clients. We offer reminders and online scheduling to assist with scheduling needs.
